Challenge #3 - Painting Yellow Flowers

Painting for Yellow FlowersReference for Yellow FlowersPosted - May 14, 2020

In this video I discuss painting flowers and clear glass with water.

Use my reference or take one of your own. Paint at least three to five flowers in a vase. Focus on the ellipses and the subtle value differences of the blooms that you are painting. Fill up your canvas and make it interesting.

In the photograph: The subtle value differences on the flowers may be difficult to see.

In the video:  I was unable to paint the vase from the same direction that the camera was viewing the still-life so I periodically rotated towards the viewer and then towards myself. Also, I was taller than the tripod so I was seeing a wider ellipse on the surface of the water than you are seeing as the viewer.

Remember: Flowers are spheres and/or ellipses. The close value changes are what will make them have roundness or shape.

Have Fun! Paint your joy!
